Free is bad?

I got laughed at today. Well, it was really more like snickering. But then it could have been wheezing and now I feel guilty for not handing the person their inhaler while their face was turning red. I was told that working for customers and letting them be in charge of how much my service was worth is the same time as working for free. He said the word 'free' like it was a bad thing.
Free is not a bad thing and never was. How many services do we all do for free everyday without a second thought? I give me 3 year old room and board for free. I have fed my dog for free going on 4 years now and have not charged her a penny. Not that it would do much good because she has no pockets for money.
Have you ever helped out someone who was elderly to pick something up? Have you ever stopped as an animal of some sort was taking their time crossing the street? Or notice that someone forgot their keys and got their attention to give the keys to them....instead of stealing their groceries, car, and her children. At any time were you saying to yourself "I should be getting paid for this"?
I think no. We all have our reasons to do things and not give a second thought about receiving money for it.
The truth is that I am getting people listed for free. When they get all happy inside about me then I will ask them to write a review and post it on the yelp website or on my Google Places page. This is just a way to build my business without sticking my hand out every time people talk to me.
So laugh all you want to Mr. Poopy!! I will run my race the way I want to. I will be happy about not being an obnoxious sales person and still having a successful online advertising business helping others.
